30 Port Rotary Automatic Cigarette Smoking Machine

The Jaeger- Baumgartner Cigarette Smoking Machine – employs multiple human puff profile (1-6) pumps.   This allows each cigarette to be smoked in the same manner as might be smoked by normal smokers using up to 6 puffs per minute, at volumes up to 80 ml per puff. 

The CSM,  a 30 port horizontal rotary machine, has 6 puffing ports that are spaced at 0 (initial puff) time and 15, 20, 30, 40 as well as 58 seconds. Cigarettes may be lighted with a gas lighter, electrically or by I.R.  The cigarette holders utilize standard labyrinth seals of various sizes to accommodate US, European, Asian and other non-traditional/foreign or handmade smoking products.  Under conditions meeting the applicable ISO standard, a centrally located exhaust duct with controllable air flow permits the collection and disposal of side stream smoke.  Addition of main stream smoke to the side stream flow allows the CSM to be used in a variety of smoke studies.

Several cigarette and cigar holders are available.  Two are notable.  The first is sized to cover air inlet holes above the filter. The second and its variations allows for the air holes to remain partially or fully open, a condition that permits air dilution of mainstream smoke within the tobacco rod. Ejection of consumed cigarettes is done electro-pneumatically using a manual compressed air ejection system. Butts are sent to a water filled ash bucket that is side mounted for convenient disposal. 

Optionally, available at an additional cost,  CSM can be equipped with one or several Human Puff Profile Pumps at smoke positions 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6 corresponding to the puff time points cited above.  This feature allows for all cigarettes to be puffed independently using puff profiles that are comparable to those of a human smoker.

McChesney-Jaeger CSM-SSM Single Cigarette Smoking Machine is a state-of-the-art manual cigarette smoking technology for analytical and toxicological studies designed by Steve McChesney of S&S Diversified and fabricated in the USA.

The advanced design and flexibility enables CSM-SSM to support various smoking protocols, flow rates, regimens, cigarette sizes, and tests, including those required by FTC and ISO. Cigarettes are loaded and removed manually, and lighted with butane igniter that is included with. The machine uses standard cigarette holders with labyrinth seals.

CSM-SSM is portable and built in modular units, which allows for simple operation and maintenance. Programmable controls are provided with JASPER Windows 9x/2000 software over RS-232 communication ports. Once programmed, system retains configuration and does not require continuous communication with a computer until a new protocol or experiment design is required.

Internal power supply of CSM-SSM is configurable to various international voltages. Butane-propane gas (for ignition), as well as 5 bar of pressurized air must be supplied externally.
